In collaborations with microbiologists a large number of new biologically active natural products have been isolated and purified. Their structures were determined by modern NMR and MS equipment. The metabolites reutericyclin, omphalotin and cyclosporins were chemically synthesized. New analogs of vancomycins were prepared by novel biosynthetic approaches, and the ribosomal biosynthesis of the omphalotin precursor and subsequent enzymatic modifications were elucidated (R. D.
